Walk to Live 2020
About Us
Imani House Inc. is an award-winning tax-exempt non-profit organization known for its free, innovative youth and family support services. Our mission is to assist marginalized youth, families, and immigrants to create vibrant neighborhoods where residents are decision-makers who take responsibility for the improvement of their lives and surroundings.

Imani House Inc. was founded in 1991 to give at-risk children positive alternatives to risky behaviors and to offer support to parents and other community members. Our programs consist of youth enhancement and development projects, adult literacy/ESOL programs, and community outreach and support information and referral services.

The Imani House Walk-to-Live was created in response to the high prevalence of childhood obesity, especially among children and families of color, and to encourage families to take control of their own health through walking: an activity that can strengthen bonds between parents, children, and communities.

The walk, which is in its 7th year, covers 3.35-miles around Prospect Park. There will be games, prizes and activities for children as well as health and fitness information tables for adults. The event is an all-inclusive community event where everyone is invited to join in and walk to bring attention to the prevention of childhood obesity. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and friends. Proceeds will be used to enhance IMANI HOUSE’s after-school nutrition and physical education projects, to create family walking clubs, to provide public education materials about the benefits of walking and to host subsequent Walk-to-Live events.
